When you can't cross the Charles Bridge because there are just too many people taking selfies, Prague is a terrible place to be. But when the worst crowds disappears, Prague can be a magical place. Book a suite at the Emblem Hotel and you have an excellent base for walks around the Old Town and yes you have the best steak house in town on the first floor. The Four Seasons is just down the street if you prefer five star luxury over chic boutique, but they don't have a suite with a sliding library door...

I just adore Rome and especially in the fall when there are less tourists and it's easier to take in the grandness of it all. Walking home from a restaurant at night and finding yourself (almost) all alone in front of the Pantheon, pure magic. If I visit Rome during the summer I always go for the Aldrovandi Villa because of their excellent pool area, but when the temperature drops, the drop dead gorgeous Hotel de Russie is my absolute favourite. Classic luxury a few hundred meters from the Spanish Steps and Piazza del Popolo with a hefty backyard bar and a spa area with pool, sauna and steam room.

My favourite European city over the past five years has been and still is Berlin. Cool bars, undiscovered suburbs, lots of great food and you never run out of opportunities. When I visit I try to get a room at the SO/ Berlin Das Stue that mixes warm and sophisticated interior design with a contemporary hospitality concept. The best thing is that I can enjoy the Spanish-Mediterranean fusion experiments in the hotel's Michelin-starred Cinco restaurant or just have a Negroni made to perfection at the bar.
